ISTANBUL TERROR ATTACK

Labor utterly condemns the barbarous and deadly attack on the Reina Nightclub in Turkey.

At least 39 people were murdered, and 70 wounded in what the Turkish Government has described as a "massacre, a truly inhumane savagery" of people celebrating what all of us had hoped would be a more peaceful and tolerant New Year.

Labor expresses its deepest sympathy to the Turkish people and the families of all those killed and wounded in the attack.

Thankfully, it appears no Australians have been killed or wounded, and Labor thanks our embassy in Turkey, and officials at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade for their assistance to people concerned about friends and relatives in Turkey.

We remain resolute in our commitment to working with our allies and friends around the world to defeating terrorism in all its forms.
