Labor welcomes the reappointment of Mick Gooda as the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner for a further two years.

Mr Gooda has been a fierce advocate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people for 30 years, working across Australia on Indigenous issues in the public and community sectors until his appointment as Commissioner in 2010.

Last week Mr Gooda urged the Government to adopt a justice target in its Closing the Gap strategy to reduce the current rate of Indigenous incarceration, as part of the 2014 Social and Native Title Report.

Labor supports the work of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commission and congratulates Mr Gooda on his reappointment.
