TIME TO RELEASE SECRET RELIGIOUS FREEDOM REPORT

Today’s embarrassing leak of key details of the secret Ruddock review into religious freedom means Scott Morrison has no choice – he must release the report in full.

The government has sat on this report since May and refused to release it, despite Labor requests – apparently too afraid to unleash internal divisions within the coalition.

They can’t wait any longer.

According to Fairfax, the secret report makes a number of significant recommendations including the creation of a Religious Discrimination Act, and an amendment to the Sex Discrimination Act concerning religious schools discriminating against kids on the basis of sexual orientation.

Labor has been clear – we will not support any weakening of existing anti-discrimination law. We will not support any new laws which make it easier to turn kids away from a school because of who they are.

If the government wants to treat this subject matter seriously, it must release the full report so that these matters can be analysed and discussed properly.

With the byelection in Wentworth only ten days away, voters deserve to see the full report, and to know what the government’s plans are.
